Standing at a 12th-story window overlooking the Golden Gate Bridge, outwardly successful but inwardly spiraling — Brent hit rock bottom. He had all the "things" but felt completely empty. He was surrounded by people but felt totally alone. He was completely burned out, disillusioned and overwhelmed.

He cancelled his meetings, turned off his phone, and went to the beach to watch his first sunset in years. Sitting on the rocks, he made his first List of Joy as well as a promise to himself that changed everything: to invest in joy every single day for the rest of his life — no matter what.

At the top of his List of Joy was one word: Italy. The very next morning, he cashed in every credit card point he had and booked a flight to Italy where he found Nonna Nerina — an Italian grandmother in a medieval village outside Rome — and made pasta from scratch in her tiny country kitchen. Brent's heart lit up in joy as his oldest memory back to when he was 3 years old was making pasta with his own grandparents... and he immediately remembered why his soul was here: To live a life filled with moments like this... and that was the beginning of his Alchemy of Joy journey!
